Getting a bit mixed up with camera access

Hi I am reading a lot on this and something caught in my mind and I can’t find what I was reading, it was something like if you want to access each cameras settings individually then you don’t use a nvr with Poe or something like that as when connected to the nvr you can’t get individual access to each camera, or have I mixed myself up somewhere ?
